We've successfully demolished the previous Bay Fishing Pier and Baitshop at Fort Desoto Park and have replaced it with an expansive new pier. This updated pier boasts a covered shade structure, a gangway leading to the ferry launch, mooring pilings, ADA-accessible railing fishing stations, environmentally-friendly turtle-friendly bollard lighting, fish cleaning stations, and quick-connect hose bibs for easy maintenance. In addition, we've reintroduced native grasses and dune plants to restore the dunes to their natural state. To enhance safety and convenience, we've also modernized the electrical controls, incorporating sunset-to-sunrise photocells for the pier's lighting. Furthermore, we've removed and replaced park sidewalks leading to the pier for improved accessibility.
